Playing at MusikFest- My first Music Festival Gig!
Updated: Aug 24, 2019
I have always loved performing, but I don't think I truly understood just how cool it was to be an artist until I had the amazing opportunity to perform at MusikFest in Bethlehem, PA.
MusikFest, America's largest free music festival, was my favorite childhood festival. I have gone every year with my family, enjoying free music, as well as ticketed acts such as Jason Mraz.
When I started to become more interested in making music my career, I began to start dreaming about playing at the festival, but it always seemed like such a farfetched dream. In my head, I was just an amateur high school songwriter who was too "unexperienced" to possibly book a set at MusikFest. However, some random, tiny voice in my head told me to apply for the heck of it, and I used SonicBids to apply for the Martin Guitar LyricPlatz stage. LyricPlatz is a super intimate venue in the ArtsQuest building which also serves as a movie theatre during most times of the year.
I submitted a few tracks from my EP, Nostalgia, and was absolutely head over heels when I received email from an MusikFest booking agent telling me that she would love to have me play at LyricPlatz, but that she also thought I would be a good fit for the Provident Main Street Stage.
Since I had gone to MusikFest many times, I knew exactly where the Main Street stage was, and I think I cried. The stage sits on Main Street (obvs), where it overlooks food tents and folding chairs where the thousands of festival attendees walking by can take a seat.
I was thrilled, and I immediately assembled a band, made up of 3 amazing musicians from my high school, and we got to practicing.
Playing at MusikFest was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I am only 18 and am heading off to Berklee College of Music in only two weeks, and I am so thankful to have had the experience at this age.
I can't wait to see what comes, and to hopefully continue to play festivals as my career continues!
Also, watch the VLOG because its so cute hehe :)
